I seeded seeds of Japanese maple, but it still keeps silence. I really want to have Japanese Maple, so I got seeds of Japanese Maple from different channel and seeded them again.
How to seed Japanese maple
Nothing difficult! Easy, easy!
Keep the seeds in refrigerator for a week
It’s already warm enough, so I kept the seeds in the refrigerator for a week. The seeds need to experience winter before they sprout. One week is too short and I don’t know it works or not, but anyway I did so.
Put the seeds in water for one night
Same as usual, I kept the seeds in the water for one night in order to make them absorb water. I kept it in the water for 12 hours, but could be shorter (8 hours?).
Some sank, some are not. Many people say that unken seeds are fine but seeds which don’t sank don’t sprout. However I always seed all of them.
They have “wing” like this, but I just cut it off by finger.
It is not absolutly necessary to remove “wing”, but better to do it because it is easier to seed without it.
Seedling bed
Same as last time, in a cup of instant noodle.
Currently it looks like this. I seeded Japanese maple in left side, but nothing appeard. I put dry withered moss, but it also doesn’t sprout, so I abandon it this time.
Removed the moss, weeds and soil at surface.
This is also weed but looks interesting. So I decided to keep it as it is. What is this sprout?
Seeding
Spread the seeds on the soil.
Then, put the soil removed before seeding.
Make the surface flat and… done!
How to keep the seeding bed
Nothing difficult, but keep the soil wet. When the surface of the soil gets dried, give water. That’s it! This time I put the bed where the sun light comes in the morning.
Japanese Maple
We can enjoy buds sprouts in spring and red leaves in autumn. From Bonsai point of view, it is strong and easy to grow, so good for beginners. You can also enjoy variety of styles in future. Why don’t you try growing Japanese maple bonsai?
