Choujubai (Chaenomeles japonica) – It is growing very well but I don’t like the shape… so I decided to try layering. Today’s target is… this one!
I’ll try to take this part.
Make a cut at two points;
Using cutter or knife, in circumferential direction as deep as to xylem
Next, make a cut in axis direction (as green line).
Peel off the skin and cambium layer and expose xylem.
Red lines are where I made cuts in advance.
Done! Xylem is totally exposed.
New roots are expected to grow from here (red circle). Apply some rooting accelerator.
Bit too much…?
Put sphagnum moss in the water and make it absorb water.
Apply the sphagnum moss around the cutting.
I put as much as possible.
Cover with cling film and… finished!!
I’m not pretty sure that above procedure works or not… really wish new roots will grow!!
