The choujubai, I did “toriki” last year (but left without care..) has “Hikobae” at good position. So I decided to wire to “Hikobae”.
See below glossary for what is “Hikobae”.

Layering choujubai (Chaenomeles japonica)
Choujubai (Chaenomeles japonica) - It is growing very well but I don't like the shape... so I decided to try layering. Today's target is... this one! ...
This is it.
When I changed the pot last year, I found a good runner-like root at good position. So I intentionally exposed it above the soil. It worked… 🙂
Done!! But I’m not quite confident that the shape is good or not…
From other side. I couldn’t shape it sharply like black pine.
I also removed some soil to check its root. Looks good for “Neagari” shape.
I heared before that Choujubai doesn’t like wiring and may wither and die after wiring. It is why I couldn’t shape it sharply, but I did as much as I could.
Anyway I really wish it will survive.
