As black pine seedlings getting bigger, I tried wiring them to make good shape.
I did wiring to these nine kids…
with “Mekiri-basami”, a special scissors for bonsai. Its tips is very small and sharp for fine work.
This is it!
This is current situation.
First of all, I cut off the “single” and “dead” leaf. Don’t cut “twin” leaves.
Do you see leaf buds? They are also important, so don’t cut them off. From such buds, new branches could come out in the future.
It is now clean!
Do same procedure…
Looks better, right?
Now let’s start wiring. I used aluminum wire with 1mm diameter.
It is for Bonsai. Dark brown plated.
Remove the soil at the base little bit to see fine roots. I used a pin for fixing the seedling.
Like this.
Cut the wire. Length is twice as long as the seedling. Then, stick it as deep as possible, till the bottom of the pot.
Like this. Wind up the wire along the trunk. Firmly, without space, but not too much. Avoid the buds. However it is not easy job, so don’t be too nervous. Just enjoy!
Looking the trees from the top, if you want to form the tree clockwise roatation, wind up the wire clockwise (and vise versa) so that the wire will hold the trunk firmly.
Shape the tree as you like. Trunk is soft and easy to bend. You can shape it randomly like above photo, or make coil-like shape.
Finally put the soil removed in the beginning. Do same procedure to other seedlings.
This one looks like coil-shape..
Quite random..
Also random shape. I got to know that I like such random shape 🙂
All I recommend is just to try; Don’t think too much, just do it, then, you”ll get to know your taste of shape.
This work looks not easy, but if you try it, it is a lot of fun. Wiring and forming tree is one of real charms of bonsai, so I really wish you try and enjoy it!
