The black pines sprouted on April 22th, 2017, is growing well. Now it is time to do seedling cutting.

Seedling cutting is known as “Jiku-kiri Sashime” in Japanese. The purpose is to make roots spread to 360 degrees.

Current situation. Check true leaves at center to know good timing for seedling cutting.

Like this one; looks good timing for seedling cutting.

Now, prepare pots.

I used plastic ones this time. Follow the procedure below in the photos.

This is the soil I used this time. Specially blended soil for sowing and seedling cutting.

Cut wire by around 3cm and fold it like “V” shape. This is to fix the seedling.

Use razor to cut seedlings. It can be cheap one, but have to be very sharp.

Make a hole center by using toothpick.

Remove soil, pull out the seedling gently.

Leave 1~2cm and cut the root. Do not just “press down” the razor, but slide razor as pressing to cut the root.

Put a little bit of rooting accelerator (Rooton) at the cutting.

Put the seedling in the hole and press the soil around to tighten the seedling.

Fix a leaf by V-shape pin. It is to prevent the seedling spin when watering.

I made around 12? of them this time.

When you water them, pour water gently from around.

Leave the pots in bright place, but not in direct sunshine.
